Pat Ferns has produced some of Canada’s finest award-winning programming and the world’s leading media events. Pat presents his signature pitching sessions worldwide. Called “the father of independent production”, he was awarded The Order of Canada for his services to the industry.
Pat left the pubcaster CBC in 1972 to create the first of several companies he’s been managing and for whom he produced numerous award-winning international documentaries and series.
In 1995, Pat Ferns left Toronto and independent production to serve as President of the Banff Television Foundation. In 2004, he moved to Victoria, B.C. and returned to his first love: independent production.
Pat is a Principal in the International Institute for Television Leadership, providing executive training and strategic consultation around the world. Pat is also a consultant to the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, and to RomaFictionFest in Italy.
Today, Pat and his son Andrew run Ferns Productions Inc. specializing in blue-chip documentary-drama mini-series.
