Dear friends,
You might think that I’ve become lazy, for it’s been more than three months since I last posted a letter. Take my word for it that laziness is not the reason for my long silence.
It’s just that our to-do list at the beginning of the year is always very well filled and it’s only now that we start to see some light at the end of the activity tunnel. Of course only to discover that the light is shining on a new list of to do’s that will keep us busy until the beginning of July. But hey, who’s complaining? There’s not one item on the list that we don’t attack with enthusiasm, for every single one represents a challenge and successfully completing them brings us ever closer to serving you best.
I was surprised myself when a few days ago I was going through some old papers and noticed that very soon it will be four years since I first arrived in Strasbourg to set up the
media management academy,
etma. Four years! It seems like it was yesterday. The old saying that time flies when you’re having fun is still true.
But having fun is not the issue here. The question is: what is the result of those four years? Can the
media management school team be content with the result of the actions undertaken? At the risk of sounding vain, I dare to say that the answer to that question is “yes”. Started from scratch we can now present a well-functioning training institute that can boast an impressive list of satisfied participants. In spite of the difficult times when we launched the school (do the words “financial crisis” still ring a bell?) we managed to reach our goals and start a
high-level training for talented media professionals. And this is only the beginning.
In a few weeks time we’ll launch the third cycle of our
Media Management Distance Learning Programme, our main activity. By the way, you can still apply! Two years of experience have of course led to some changes and improvements and I’m grateful to our participants for their continuous input. It’s so rewarding to notice that our students are not passive listeners but that they are active participants who care about what we’re doing and who relentlessly spend time and effort on helping us to achieve the highest level.
The same can be said about the participants of the European Media Executive Leadership Programme, the one-week
media executive leadership seminar that
etma organises already for the third consecutive year (June 19-24, 2011), in collaboration with the International Institute for Television Leadership (Canada). We’re all looking forward to this intensive but very rewarding week.
I’m also very proud on the new initiative that we developed together with Audienca, Programme SciencesCom (Nantes): the
etma Case Challenge. In cooperation with 5 European universities we’ve created a competition that will bring together at least 60 students from all over Europe in a case study competition. (June 27-July 1st). It’s an experiment, but we’re fully convinced that this event will be the start of a long tradition that once again will put
Strasbourg on the map as the centre of Media Management studies. You’ll hear about the results when you return from your well-deserved holiday, early September.
And before I forget to mention it, all these initiatives are supported by the Media 2007 Programme of the European Union. I can’t underline enough how important this support has been for the development of our institute.
A few months ago I announced that we were also talking to partners in Eastern Europe and I’m proud to confirm that these talks have resulted in an agreement with the European Media Institute, based in Warsaw and headed by Dariusz Jablonski and Violetta Kaminska. Very soon we’ll be sending information about our first joint actions.
In a few weeks time we will also communicate about two workshops that will be organised during summer. These workshops will be aimed at an audience of international independent producers. What better way to enjoy your holiday then by spending some days with us and to return home enriched with some really practical information that will allow you to run your business even more successfully?
Members of the
etma group on Facebook will receive a personal notification as soon as the detailed information will be available on our website.
I’m sure that you’ll remember that from the very beginning
etma has been collaborating with the Media School of the Bournemouth University (UK), who actually delivers our diploma. This partnership has proven extremely pleasant and fruitful, and we’re looking forward to continuing it for many years. But this does not stop us from creating new partnerships and at this moment
etma is involved in serious negotiations with the Ecole de Management de Strasbourg (the Business School of Strasbourg) to join forces. This will be a major step in the development of
etma and it will help us realise our ambition to make the beautiful city of Strasbourg the centre of European Media Management studies.
Ambitious? Indeed, it is. But once more, we don’t do it because it’s so much fun (which it absolutely is!) but because we believe that our
training programme is useful and that there’s a real need for it.
I’ve said if often and I say it again; we could not have done all this without the continuous support by many professionals, including you. The
etma team appreciates your regular visits to the website and to our Facebook group. We’re also very grateful for all other signs of sympathy we keep receiving; they do not pass by unnoticed.
Happy Easter!
